In short

  • No accounts, no email address, no ads, no tracking, no analytics.
  • Your location never goes to our server; at most a postcode does.
  • The shopping list is stored on our server so that your family can share it.
  • An AI assistant is connected only if you explicitly allow it in the app.

What the app stores

  • Family: the family's name and the names members give themselves. A random access key per device; we store only its hash, a device label and when it was last used.
  • List and purchases: products, amounts, categories, who added or checked off what and when, purchases with shop and time, shopping sessions (shop, member, device, start and end).
  • Shops: your family's shops with their location. Shops you add on the map become visible to everyone once a second family uses them; who added them is never shown.
  • Assistant connections: which assistant, who allowed it, when it last accessed the list; access keys only as hashes.
  • No access logs: our server logs no IP addresses and no requested URLs, so no searched postcodes either. It logs errors only, without IP addresses.

What stays on your device

Your location, the learned order in each shop and the shopping suggestions are computed on the device only. With "Remind me at stores" on, iOS checks on the iPhone whether you arrive at one of your shops; the app only learns "arrived at shop X" and sends nothing about it. When you tap "Use my location", Apple Maps turns your location into a postcode on Apple's terms. Maps are loaded from Apple Maps.

This website

The website zett.tel consists of static files. It sets no cookies, uses no analytics and loads no content from other servers; the font is served from our server too. To deliver a page the server processes your IP address, but it does not store it: there are no access logs. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in a working website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Sharing

  • Hosting: Hetzner Online GmbH, Germany, as processor.
  • AI assistants: only after a family member allows a connection, the assistant reads the open list and the purchases of the last 90 days at most and can add and check off items. What the assistant does with them is governed by its provider's terms. Any family member can disconnect it in the app at any time.
  • Nothing else is shared or sold.

Shop data comes from OpenStreetMap (© OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL).

How long

As long as your family uses the app. Any family member can delete the family with all its data in the app under Settings → Delete family. Or email moin@zett.tel from one of the family's devices or with the family name and a member's name. Shops other families already use remain, without any link to you.

Your rights

You have the rights to access, rectification, erasure, restriction, data portability and objection, and the right to complain to a data protection supervisory authority. The legal basis for the app is the performance of the contract of use (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
